Note | Grew up in Yarmouth, learned parents trade.1905 became manager of George Portwines in Portobello Rd, Kensington. Met Ethell while she was buying supplies for White Hall where she worked as a domestic servant for Lord Kitchener, Emigrated to New Zealand 25/9/1924 on board NZ Shipping Coy Line SS `Remuera' With Ethel and son Ted from Southampton to Wellington. Took train to Auckland where Bert's brothers were and became butcher's assistant. Worked brother's butcher shop in Devonpport then moved accross to St Heliers Bay, and was financed by brother Syd into a shop in St Heliers Bay, which was both a butcher and grocery. Bert returned to England once in 1951. He was a strong believer in the British Israeli Association |
