| Note | Death Clipping; Le Grice, Emma (nee Bugg) on May 26,1938, at her son's residen ce, 26 Walmesley Rd, St Heliers, dealy loved mother of Sydney, Albert, Ernest and Percy in her 79th year. The funeral will leave the above address at 2pm on Saturday for Purewa Cemetery. Emma Bugg emigrated to NZ in Aug. 1914 bringing her sons George Ernest and Percy Leonard with her. They were on their way to NZ when the 1WW broke out. Sydney her eldest son had arrived in NZ in 1908. Both Sydney and George Ernest (Ernie) joined up with the N.Z. Forces and served in the War in France. By this time Emma and Percy had moved from the Parnel house where they were living and bought a Grocery business in Vauxhall Road, Devonport. Syd and Ernie went into business in partnership having a Grocery business in Broadway Newmarket. Percy was then working in the Wholesale side of the Grocery trade for a firm called Entrican's. After Ernie was married to Kate Hart in 1921 Ernie bought a Grocery shop on the corner of Owens Road and Cameron Street in Devonport, leaving Syd to carfry on at Newmarket, which he did for a short while. Percy by this time had an opportunity to buy another Wholesale Grocery firm of E.Ellingham and Co., and he and Syd then went into this together, with Ernie having shares in it as well. Later on (about 1924) Albert another son and his wife Ethel Tolton and their only son Edward Ernest travelled out to N.Z. and they were for a time in the Devonport shop in Vauxhall Road. After that was sold they rented a Grocery shop in St. Heliers from Syd and his wife Agnes where they stayed until they retired. |
