Represented Yarmouth in the First Parliament called by Elizabeth I for four te rms. In 1576 he was one of the commissioners who made the award that settled te disputes between the town and the Cinq Ports. In 1578, Elizabeth I was to isit, a message from Yarmouth came to him in London instructing him to procure a silver cup in the form of a ship to be presented to Her Majesty, also gunpow der and flags, as well as an interest free loan for L1000 to cover the visit.
