Note | Extract from The NORWICH MERCURY 14 Oct 1882 LODDON SAD AND FATAL ACCIDENT A terrible accident, with fatal results, occurred at the Mills of Mr Chapman at Loddon, Norfolk on Wednesday night. It appears that his foreman, Robert Le Grice, while attending to some some duties in the Mills, which are worked partlyby steam and wind, became entangled in the machinery and received such injuries that he expired in a very short time. His two sons were telegraphed in Norwich, but they arrived too late to see their father alive. The deceased was a brother-in-law to Mr R.T.Savage, a farmer of Brixley and was well-known in the district in which he resided. On Thursday morning an inquest was held at the Swann Inn, before J. W. Sparrow, Esq, Deputy Coroner. It appears the deceased was, on Wednesday evening, in the act of altering a strap near the fly wheel of the engine, when by some means he was caught in the fly-wheel, and death was instantaneous. A verdict of accidental death was returned and no blame was attached to anyone. Researched and sent by Donald Le Grice, Lowestoft, Norfolk |
