The earliest Le Grices came to England with William of Normandy, “The Conqueror” whose army defeated King Harold at the Battle of Hastings. If one looks at the documents concerning the Battle of Hastings and also the Domesday Book, Erard Le Grys and his sons accompanied their liege lord, Roger de Montgomery, and were with him in the central attack at Pevensey, the beach landing and later inland at the decisive Battle of Hastings.
Settling in England
After a period of entrenchment, many of the soldiers were rewarded with land and titles for their efforts in various parts of England and Wales, with Norfolk becoming a center for Le Grices for 750 years
